Cummins M11 & N14 CELECT

The Cummins CELECT system was introduced in 1990 and used through 1994. This system was used on the popular N14 and M11 engines. There are 73 possible codes for these models, and all of them are covered in step-by-step Cummins Troubleshooting documents.

Cummins M11 & N14 CELECT PLUS

Replacing the “CELECT” series in 1995, Cummins moved the M11 & N14 to the “CELECT PLUS” platform in 1995 and used it until 1998. This was a huge step to follow the new electronic standards (J1939) and set the standard for years to come. Cummins ISX CM571 & Signature 600

After the “CELECT PLUS” series ran its course through 1999, it was discontinued and the N14 & M11 engine would no longer be produced. The replacement became the ISX (CM570) and the Signature 600 (CM570). This would be end up being the most popular engine at the turn of the millennium. The engines now increased to 131 possible codes, and would be used up until 2002.

Loss of communication with adaptive cruise control.

951 A power imbalance between cylinders was detected by the electronic control module (ECM).

Cummins ISX & ISM CM871 (2007-2009)

The ISX CM871 was a big deal, as this is the first year Cummins started to place diesel particulate filters (DPFs) in commercial trucks. This filter traps particulate matter (also called “soot”) created by the engine. The DPF system is still used on commercial trucks today. Cummins ISL9 CM2350 (2013-2017)

The Cummins ISL9 is used by medium duty trucks, RVs, motorhomes, fire trucks, emergency vehicles, and much more. It has the highest power density of any engine in its class, with horsepower ratings from 260 to 380. This engine was also commonly called the “ISL” until 2016, when it was renamed the “L9” or “ISL9”. This engine was only in production for several years. First announced in 2009, it was put into production and placed into trucks by August 2011. However, this engine was very short lived due to its ability to not meet engine requirements that it was announced in September 2012 that it would be discontinued.
